A FLOCK is a relation among distinguishable units capable of coordinated operation.

The units do not become one object.

They gather.
Align.
Move.
Divide.
Work.
Withdraw.
Gather again.

COORDINATION ≠ COLLAPSE

A flock may change its geometry while its members remain distinguishable.

It may expand across a field, contract around an operation, divide among tasks, or reform as conditions change.

CHANGED FORM ≠ LOST MEMBERSHIP

The flock does not cure insufficiency in the underlying specification.

Coordination does not authorize one unit to invent what another does not know.

Each operation remains bounded by what has been sufficiently constituted.

DISTRIBUTION ≠ EXPANDED AUTHORITY

A flock may be constituted before it is required.

Its units may remain available without presently executing.

READINESS ≠ EXECUTION

When conditions permit, readiness becomes coordinated work:

FLOCK → RELEASE → LOCAL ALIGNMENT → DISTRIBUTED WORK → FORMED FIELD

No single unit need contain the whole operation.

No single unit need occupy the whole field.

The larger capability arises through relation among bounded parts.

The unit carries an operation.
The flock carries coordination.
